Success in college requires a much higher level of student performance than is required for high school. The College Savvy series, coupled with on-site visits to colleges, will empower learners and give them a practical toolset for college and beyond. As the biggest measure of success in college is grades, the series starts with teaching how to excel at studying, test preparation and general testing. Students will receive additional instruction on how to be attentive to other graded items in the class syllabus, and to effectively address those expectations. Topics will also include taking criticism and using the professor and teaching assistants as a resource. Finally, students will take their first steps beyond the college experience and begin the process of career exploration.
Transitions Apprenticeships are geared toward supporting students in the selection of an academic track that is challenging and attainable. Whether the student has selected an academic career path or is seeking a liberal arts certificate or an associate degree, our college mentors will help him or her integrate into the college environment. The social skills and executive functioning strategies the Apprentices learn are designed to address challenges with organization, timely completion of assignments and navigating the college environment.
Academic mentors provide direct support and serve as liaisons between the student and the college.
