Students in the Career Concentration will use the skills learned in the approved The Sage College courses to apply, interview and intern with an area employer that best matches the student’s profile, interests and abilities. Students will be expected to dress, act and function as a professional while completing a workday and will receive vital constructive feedback throughout from the employer to refine workplace behaviors, habits and skills. Individual job coaches will be assigned as needed. As a self-advocacy exercise, students will have the opportunity to disclose their disability to their internship supervisor as well as request reasonable accommodations.
The Transitions Career and Employment Center will be the hub for career and internship exploration. Students who choose the Career Apprenticeship will have a career mentor to guide them through career exploration and development and also in securing an internship.
Through their Personal Outcome Measures® interview, students will be able to develop a plan that directly supports their career path and identifies the career readiness that is essential to success. If a student needs to explore different types of careers, they can be matched with various departments at the Lexington Center for internships. Apprentices will be encouraged to volunteer and participate in community service as a means to interact with others and explore career options they may not have previously considered.
